Age Concern Christchurch supports local older people by providing both a face-to-face and telephone Information and Advice service. The need for this service is increasing as the population ages. We are building our team of volunteers to make sure we are reaching the people who need our help to make the most of their life.
We offer a befriending service to people over 65 years of age living in the Christchurch area who live alone and feel isolated. Referrals to the service are via partner organisations.
Friendship Centres are friendly and relaxed places for older people to meet for afternoon tea and biscuits, to socialise and enjoy companionship.
Age Concern Christchurch operates a 15 seat minibus with an electric lift for wheelchairs or for people unable to use the steps. The dedicated volunteer drivers and assistants provide door to door shopping trips for older people, transport to some of the friendship centres there is also a programme of monthly outings.
